Di Australia, siapa yang nggak kenal Jetstar? Maskapai anak perusahaan Qantas ini menjadi pilihan utama orang-orang Aussie untuk penerbangan murah, baik domestik maupun internasional. Popularitas Jetstar di Australia seperti Air Asia untuk kawasan Asia.
Kami sendiri sudah beberapa kali naik Jetstar. Semua tiket Jetstar saya pesan langsung dari website mereka. Saya senang dengan website Jetstar yang gampang dipakai ini. Untuk memesan tiket tidak harus memasukkan detil macam-macam, cukup nama, tanggal lahir dan kontak email dan telpon. Dengan mudah, saya bisa membelikan tiket untuk keluarga saya, termasuk untuk Ayah, Ibu, Mertua dan Adik-adik saya di Indonesia. Jadi travel agen gratisan ceritanya 🙂 Pembayaran bisa menggunakan kartu kredit atau transfer bank (khusus bank Australia dan New Zealand).
Jetstar melayani rute domestik yang menghubungkan kota-kota di Australia dan penerbangan internasional di antaranya ke Indonesia, Singapura, Selandia Baru, Fiji, Jepang dan Hawai. Di Indonesia, Jetstar terbang dari Denpasar ke Perth, Darwin, Melbourne dan Sydney. Ada juga rute langsung dari Jakarta ke Perth.
Untuk rute domestik dengan Jetstar, kami pernah terbang dari Sydney ke Melbourne (Avalon) pp dan dari Sydney ke Hobart. Waktu itu (2010), tiket Sydney ke Melbourne ‘hanya’ AU$39 sekali jalan. Tiket Sydney – Hobart (2011) AU$ 69 sekali jalan. Saat ini, saya juga sudah membeli tiket untuk liburan bulan Juni 2012 nanti, Sydney – Darwin AU$ 119 sekali jalan.
Untuk rute internasional, kami pernah terbang dengan Jetstar dari Melbourne ke Queenstown, New Zealand (2011) dengan tiket seharga AU$ 99 per orang sekali jalan. Tahun 2009, saya membelikan tiket untuk Ayah Ibu Mertua yang terbang dari Denpasar ke Sydney via Darwin, US$ 199 per orang sekali jalan. Tiket ini lumayan murah, tapi kurang nyaman karena harus transit di Darwin jam 3 pagi (!). Saya tidak menyarankan rute Denpasar – Sydney via Darwin, kecuali untuk yang memang ingin jalan-jalan di Darwin. Rute langsung Denpasar – Sydney kadang-kadang ada yang murah kok. Tahun 2010, saya membelikan tiket penerbangan langsung Denpasar – Sydney untuk Ayah, Ibu dan Adik seharga US$ 199 per orang sekali jalan. Untuk pulang ke Indonesia Juni 2012 nanti, saya juga sudah membeli tiket Darwin – Denpasar seharga AU$ 99 per orang sekali jalan. Memang sengaja beli tiket dari Darwin karena kami memang pengen jalan-jalan ke Darwin dulu.
Semua harga yang saya sebutkan di atas adalah harga promosi, karena saya yang menganut paham ngiritisme ogah membeli tiket pesawat dengan harga standar. Kalau bukan tiket SALE, tarif Jetstar ini mendekati tarif Garuda. Jelas mending naik Garuda kalau harganya sama (bukannya nasionalis, tapi lidah ini telanjur fanatik dengan masakan Indonesia). Saya juga biasa beli tiket jauh-jauh hari. Perencanaan liburan biasanya sudah dimulai minimal 9 bulan sebelumnya. Tips untuk mendapatkan tiket murah dari Jetstar adalah berlangganan newsletter mereka. Masuklah ke website Jetstar dan daftarkan alamat email. Cara lain untuk mendapatkan tiket murah adalah mengintip website mereka setiap Jumat sore mulai pukul 4 AEST (12 WIB), ketika mereka menggelar Friday Frenzy SALE.
Seperti layaknya penerbangan murah lainnya, harga yang saya sebutkan di atas adalah harga dasar, belum termasuk bagasi, makan/minum, pesan tempat duduk dan fee kalau bayar pakai kartu kredit. Biaya tambahan kecil-kecil ini harus kita waspadai karena biasanya harga jadi membengkak. Jangan sampai harga total nanti sama dengan harga pesawat normal. Bagasi tambahan seberat 20 kg harganya sekitar AU$16 untuk domestik dan AU$18 untuk internasional. Kalau liburan, biasanya kami berempat hanya beli 2 bagasi tambahan. Itu saja barang bawaaan kami nggak sampai 40 kg.
Memesan tempat duduk, baik biasa maupun tempat duduk khusus juga dikenakan biaya tambahan. Pesan tempat duduk ini tidak wajib karena toh semua pasti akan dapat tempat duduk. Tapi bagi saya, opsi ini wajib karena nggak lucu kalau nanti tempat duduk kami berpencar-pencar. Biaya pesan kursi reguler adalah $4 per orang. Kalau urutan kursinya 3-3, saya akan duduk bertiga dengan the precils, sementara Si Ayah duduk di belakang kami, di kursi dekat isle. Big A selalu memilih duduk dekat jendela, Little A di tengah, dan saya di dekat isle. Ada satu lagi biaya tambahan yang mungkin tidak terduga: fee untuk pembayaran dengan kartu kredit sebesar AU$ 7 per booking. Saya sebal sekali dengan biaya yang sebenarnya kecil ini. Dua tahun sebelumnya, Jetstar tidak membebani biaya tambahan untuk pembayaran dengan kartu kredit. Tapi sejak mereka meluncurkan kartu kredit khusus, biaya tambahan ini dikenakan, kecuali tentu saja yang membayar dengan kartu kredit khusus dari Jetstar. Untuk menghindari small fee ini saya membayar dengan transfer bank (gratis). Sayangnya, transfer bank hanya bisa dilakukan dari rekening bank di Australia dan New Zealand.
Cek In
Kalau ada satu hal yang tidak saya sukai dari Jetstar adalah urusan cek in di bandara Sydney. Sudah dua kali kami mengalami kejadian yang nggak mengenakkan. Karena membawa tas yang ditaruh di bagasi, kami harus antri cek in di konter. Kami datang pagi-pagi benar ke terminal domestik, tapi antrian sudah seperti ular naga panjangnya. Hanya ada beberapa konter yang buka melayani penumpang. Saya tidak suka dengan sistem antrian mereka yang hanya menyediakan satu jalur antrian panjang. Tidak ada jalur khusus untuk yang sudah cek in online dan mencetak boarding pass sendiri, seperti di Emirates atau Qantas. Jadi sebenarnya percuma juga cek in online kalau antriannya sama dengan yang belum cek in online. Kecuali bagi mereka yang tidak membawa tas untuk bagasi. Penumpang tipe ini bisa langsung melenggang bebas kalau sudah cek in online dan mencetak boarding pass sendiri. Di terminal bandara ada beberapa mesin self-service check in untuk mencetak boarding pass.
Ketika waktu boarding sudah dekat, Jetstar akan membuka konter khusus untuk melayani penumpang yang belum cek in di antrian normal. Pembukaan konter ini membuat huru-hara dan menyusahkan bagi mereka yang sudah terjebak di tengah antrian normal. Untuk keluar antrian harus menerobos orang-orang lain dan belum tentu bisa mendapat antrian yang lebih pendek di konter khusus. Lebih repot lagi kalau membawa dua precils 😐 Sistem antrian seperti ini kurang adil karena yang antri lebih dulu belum tentu dilayani terlebih dahulu. Mungkin lebih baik cek in mendekati waktu boarding agar langsung antri di konter khusus, tapi dengan resiko konter keburu tutup.
Untungnya cek in di bandara yang kecil tidak terlalu merepotkan. Kami pernah lancar jaya cek in di bandara kecil Avalon, satu jam bermobil dari Melbourne. Untuk penerbangan internasional ke New Zealand, cek in kami di bandara internasional Melbourne juga tidak perlu antri panjang. Ketika saya tanyakan pengalaman Adik dan Ibu Mertua saya yang cek in di Denpasar, mereka mengatakan pelayanan cek in Jetstar di sana baik-baik saja. Biasanya di Denpasar, kita bakalan cek in bareng bule-bule miskin (backpackers) yang membawa papan selancar 🙂

Pengalaman Terbang
Menurut kami, naik Jetstar cukup nyaman. Di penerbangan domestik, urutan kursinya 3-3. Kursinya dari kulit, cukup nyaman dan cukup lebar. Jarak antara kursi dengan kursi di depannya juga lumayan lebar, cukuplah untuk orang Asia. Memang kalau bule atau yang badannya tinggi besar akan lumayan tersiksa duduk di kursi Jetstar ini, lututnya bisa beradu dengan kursi depannya. Kalau melihat bule-bule merana ini, saya begitu bersyukur dikarunia tubuh pendek 🙂 Yang serius ingin melihat ukuran kursi-kursi pesawat, sila cek website Seat Guru.
Little A yang sudah di atas dua tahun memperoleh kursi sendiri. Sayangnya di penerbangan murah seperti Jetstar ini, anak usia di atas dua tahun tetap harus bayar penuh seperti tarif dewasa, tidak ada diskon sama sekali. Potongan harga biasanya ada untuk penerbangan internasional. Ketika membeli tiket pesawat ke New Zealand, tarif untuk The Precils hanya separuhnya. Begitu juga ketika saya membeli tiket dari Darwin ke Denpasar anak-anak ‘hanya’ bayar AU$ 49, sementara dewasa AU$ 99. Ternyata setelah saya cek, diskonnya adalah potongan tarif pajak, sementara tarif aslinya sama dengan orang dewasa.
Biasanya kursi Little A saya ganjal dengan selimut fluffynya agar sedikit lebih tinggi dan lebih nyaman. Little A juga tidak rewel ketika dipakaikan sabuk pengaman. Begitu mengudara dan tanda sabuk pengaman boleh dilepas, biasanya Little A saya rebahkan di kepala saya agar bisa tidur dengan nyaman. Ketika lepas landas, saya pakaikan ear muff khusus untuk anak-anak (merk Peltor) untuk meredam suara bising. Ear muff ini tidak bisa meredakan sakit telinga akibat perbedaan tekanan, namun cukup membantu meredam suara bising. Dengan ear muff ini, Little A tetap bisa mendengar suara normal di sekelilingnya.
Karena ini penerbangan murah, makanan dan minuman di dalam pesawat harus kita usahakan sendiri. Kalau mau repot dan ngirit, kita boleh kok membawa makanan ke dalam pesawat. Waktu itu kami membawa muffin dan roti yang kami beli ketika menunggu di bandara. Sampai di atas pesawat, kami tinggal membeli jus seharga AU$ 3. Makanan dan minuman yang dijual Jetstar ini harganya normal, seperti layaknya harga makanan di darat, tentu dengan standar Australia. Ketika naik Jetstar dari Sydney ke Denpasar, adik saya, Dila membeli Pop Mie yang harganya Rp 50.000 😀 Pembelian makanan di pesawat ini bisa dibayar dengan uang cash atau kartu kredit, biasanya dengan mata uang menurut negara asal dan negara tujuan. Makanan yang dijual tidak banyak ragamnya dan tidak membuat saya berselera ketika membaca menunya: sandwich, spaghetti, mie instant dan kue-kue. Saya sih menyarankan untuk makan serius dulu sebelum naik Jetstar dan tidur manis saja selama di pesawat.
Pelayanan kru Jetstar standar dan profesional, sesuai fungsi mereka. Kalau dibandingkan dengan kru dari Asia, jelas kalah ramah. Seragam mereka juga nggak neko-neko dan make up mereka saya perhatikan tidak sampai setebal tembok cina 🙂
Pengalaman terbang internasional saya dengan Jetstar hanya short haul (3 jam) dari Melbourne ke New Zealand. Pesawat yang digunakan juga pesawat kecil seperti penerbangan domestik, dengan formasi kursi 3-3. Tidak ada yang istimewa dalam penerbangan ke New Zealand ini. Kami berempat tertidur di pesawat karena kecapekan dan baru bangun ketika akan mendarat. Kami bahkan tidak sempat membeli makan atau minum apapun di pesawat.
Untuk pengalaman terbang internasional yang lebih otentik, saya menanyakan ke Adik dan Ibu Mertua. Untuk penerbangan dari Denpasar ke Sydney mereka menggunakan pesawat besar dengan formasi kursi 3 – 4 – 3. Adik saya, Dila, suka dengan kursi Jetstar yang menurutnya lebih nyaman daripada kursi Air Asia. Sandaran kursi Jetstar, masih menurut Dila, bisa menahan tubuh kita ketika tidur dengan posisi miring. Kalau disuruh memilih dua penerbangan dengan harga yang sama, Dila lebih memilih naik Jetstar daripada Air Asia, dengan alasan kursinya lebih nyaman. Begitu juga Ibu jawaban Ibu Mertua ketika saya tanyakan hal yang sama, lebih memilih Jetstar daripada Air Asia dengan alasan lebih nyaman transit di Denpasar daripada di Kuala Lumpur.
